HISTORY

In August 1972, Association President Kenneth Newbold appointed the Wives Involvement Ad-hoc Committee for the purpose of generating Guard wives interest in the Guard and getting them involved.

In 1974, the North Carolina National Guard Association Ladies Auxiliary was voted into existence and was the first in the United States.  The Auxiliary was chartered by the State of North Carolina on May 7, 1980.  In 1988, the Auxiliary changed its name to the North Carolina National Guard Association Auxiliary (NCNGA Auxiliary).

The Auxiliary is governed by an elected Board of Directors and is comprised of the following:  President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter Historian, Immediate Past President and Chaplain.  The officers, with the exception of the Immediate Past President are elected by the membership at the annual meeting.  The Chaplain is appointed by the President.

OUR GOALS

Our goals are to promote an understanding, cooperation, friendship and association among the families of the North Carolina National Guard members.

ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT

This Auxiliary, as well as being an Auxiliary to the North Carolina National Guard Association, works with the NCNGA Education Foundation, the North Carolina Military Historical Society, EANGUS Auxiliary, the National Guard Family Program and the National Guard Military Center.

MEMBERSHIP

The membership of the Auxiliary is composed of spouses and parents of life, active, retired and deceased members of the North Carolina National Guard Association.  Any citizen who had rendered favorable service to the NCNGA and/or Auxiliary shall be eligible for election to honorary membership.

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

A North Carolina National Guard Association Auxiliary Scholarship was established in 1988.  The recipients of this scholarship are spouses and dependents of a guard member.  In 1994, the Auxiliary voted to change the name to the Dorothy Ledbetter Memorial Scholarship.  Contribution received from individuals and groups are important in providing this scholarship.  These funds can be applied to only tuition and fees and are paid directly to the learning institution.

By being a member of the Auxiliary, you are entitled to all benefits of the North Carolina National Guard Association.  These benefits include discount admission cards to various theme parks, car rental agencies, membership in the State Employees Credit Union and scholarships available to you and your dependents from the Association's Educational Foundation.  You and your guest may attend and participate in the annual    North Carolina National Guard Association Convention
