Major General William E. Ingram, Jr. was appointed to the position of
Adjutant General on July 16, 2001. Prior to becoming the Adjutant
General, he served as State Training Officer of the North Carolina
Army National Guard.
General Ingram is a native of Eastern North Carolina and earned a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Chemistry from North Carolina
State University in 1972. His military education includes completion
of the US Army War College and the Command and General Staff College.
Commissioned a second lieutenant in the Infantry in 1972 through the
North Carolina Military Academy, General Ingram spent the next 29
years in a variety of command and staff positions in North Carolina,
Croatia and Macedonia. His command assignments include Infantry
Company Commander, 1st Battalion, 119th
Infantry, 30th Infantry Brigade; Commander, 1st
Battalion, 119th Infantry, 30th Infantry
Brigade; 139th Rear Tactical Operations Center; Task Force
Pershing, 1st Infantry Division and 2d Armored Division and
Task Force Sabre, 1st Infantry Division.
He has commanded troops at the National Training Center; Operation
Joint Guard in Croatia and Bosnia; KFOR in Macedonia and during
several hurricane relief operations in North Carolina. He has served
as Chief of Staff, United Nations Preventive Deployment (UNPREDEP) in
Skopje, Macedonia.
General Ingram's awards and decorations include the Meritorious
Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed
Forces Expeditionary Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Armed Forces
Service Medal, NATO Medal (Former Yugoslavia), NATO Medal (Kosovo),
United Nations Medal, Army Superior Unit Award and the Air Assault
Badge.
