I cannot begin to tell you what a feeling it was to see our North Carolina flag flying high here in Southwest Asia. Not knowing if they were Guard, Reserves, or Active Duty, but knowing that I had to find out. It was a glimpse from home and amongst all the brown tents and tan sand, it was the most beautiful site to see. I told Senior Airman Seth Monteleon, who was with me, “We have to find out who they are!”
I immediately announced upon entering through the door, “I am a member of the North Carolina National Guard” and we were met with smiles and wide open arms. It was the 130th Finance Management Company of the 113th Sustainment Brigade, out of Siler City, North Carolina. What a surprise it was to see fellow members of our NC National Guard half-way around the world.
I only wanted to stop in and say hello but that is not always the case. Now, some of you who know me are probably saying it was my fault but it’s not always me.

Anyhow, they are the best and I really appreciated their hospitality and time.
North Carolina National Guard members are deploying around the world and even though we may not always know each other, there is still a bond that cannot be explained or can it? We all know we belong to a National Guard that has so much history and tradition. The accomplishments and sacrifices are long and distinguished. This is what bonds us together and strengthens the fibers of our North Carolina National Guard Association.
Our footprint is visible around the world and so is our North Carolina flag. Continue to raise her high everywhere you go and every once in a while a fellow NC Guardsman might show up at your door with a smile to say hello.
